Clubhouse News (last updated Aug 07)

For anyone who’s passed by Fort Matilda recently you will have noticed that the clubhouse development is progressing at a pace. Officially the contract completion date is mid January 2008, but the target date for entry is presently mid December and we are currently well on schedule to achieve this.

In terms of the construction, all foundations and drainage are complete and gas, water, power and telecoms are in place up to the building, just to be connected when the building is wind and watertight. The base road surface is already in place and one can start to get an impression of the overall site layout . The block-work on most of the building itself is now up to first floor level and scaffolding has been erected for the next level. All major steelwork is in place and roofing should be starting around the end of September. To date, believe it or not, the weather has been very kind with less than one full day lost over the contract period.

Work on the flats is also progressing well and Dickie and Moore the builders have already started marketing these for sale.

First half of season
plans are currently being progressed to switch as many of our first half season home game fixtures to away matches – giving us a second half season where we can capitalise on our new facility.

Fundraising
Unfortunately since we moved out of the old clubhouse, fundraising, with a couple of exceptions, has come to a halt and it is now crucial that we restart activities to achieve the £15,000 remaining from our fundraising target. It is absolutely vital that this is attained before the year end or this will compromise our entry pre- Christmas! Some club sections have been great over-achieving their targets, but sadly some other sections have barely passed the starting line. It is appreciated that fundraising without our own club is challenging however there are activities that can be organised out-with our own facility and all are asked to please look urgently at what your section can do.

New Clubhouse Marketing
A committee is in the process of being set up to look at all aspects of marketing our new facility, looking at everything from membership drives to the marketing of the function suite. Volunteers are sought to join this – please give it your consideration and if interested contact John Bryceland at j.bryceland@ntlworld.com

SportScotland
As you are aware SportScotland are significant funders of our project and regular onsite meetings are held with them as the construction progresses. They are absolutely delighted with the development to date and at the last meeting surprised us by stating “ that in their opinion when complete this would be one of the very best clubhouse facilities in Scotland ! ”

Brewers
Meetings are presently being held with the major brewers with a view to establishing which one will offer us the best deal from a commercial perspective, including an upfront contribution and ongoing competitive pricing.

Christmas Function
In line with or targeted entry date mid-December it is hoped that all of our Christmas and New Year functions will be held within the new facility, including our own Christmas Ball – more detail will follow on this nearer the time when a definite completion date is established. Hope this brief update has been of interest – it is our intention to issue further Newsletters at regular intervals to keep everyone up to speed as the construction progresses.
