Fellow Members and Guests;
First of all may I bid you a very warm welcome to the Greenock Wanderers R.F.C. web site and hope that you enjoy your visit.

On a personal level, I am of course honoured to be President of such an old and well established rugby club as Wanderers, particularly during the current period when we are undergoing so much change. The construction of our new clubhouse is undoubtedly the biggest single piece of business that our club will ever undertake and it is comforting to know that past President Charles Shaw is heading up the development committee that is tasked with bringing that project to a successful conclusion. The club owes Charles and his committee a great debt of gratitude for all their hard work. We also thank the members of Royal West of Scotland Amateur Boat Club for allowing us temporary accommodation during the construction period.

If the vagaries of Scottish weather are kind to us we hope to be back home at Fort Matilda by mid December this year and enjoying a state of the art facility that will be the envy of many and our home long into the future.

Our business is of course rugby football and we are currently occupying a position in the First Division of the Scottish National Leagues and have been there for some 4 years. We have a fresh young side full of enthusiasm and talent, all of whom came through the ranks at Fort Matilda. It is the coaches and organisers of all age groups that we thank for this continual conveyor belt of quality young players that has sustained the club so well over the years. Our next objective is to achieve promotion into the Premier Leagues for the first time in the clubs history.

As I write this article we are preparing for season 2007/08 and I’d like to wish new Captain Dave Craven all the very best for a successful season ahead. David arrived from Australia last year and had an excellent first season with the club and his maturity, leadership and knowledge of the game made him an obvious choice for Club Captain for this forthcoming season.

I am proud to say that loyalty, honesty and hard work are all traits of the new captain and I believe of the Wanderers membership since our foundation in 1873.I know that we will all work together to safely negotiate the difficult year ahead and ensure that the club develops, and goes from strength to strength in the future. I look forward to seeing you at the “Fort “supporting the boys in red, yellow and black
